Altair Nanotechnologies – This small public U.S. company is involved in developing lithium-ion batteries for vehicles. Lithium-ion batteries, which are more durable and longer lasting than the batteries in today’s gas-electric hybrid vehicles, are intended to support a new generation of cars and trucks that can be plugged in to an ordinary electrical outlet. Several car manufacturers hope to introduce plug-in vehicles within five years or less, and so lithium-ion car batteries from companies such as AltairNano could be in demand.
