General Motors Corp. –– This giant U.S. auto company is working on a number of alternatively-fueled vehicles including hybrid electric and fuel cell. It’s partnering with firms on advanced battery development. It’s developing “smart” materials for vehicles, so named because they can change their shape and other characteristics when heated, stressed, etc., and then “remember” to revert to their original form. GM’s also working in a number of other alternative fuel and efficiency-enhancing areas. |
